"We've built complex FDM models from Rhino files, and used it in a variety of high-end modeling applications.  The first of our DIY projects to be modeled in Rhino was the G8-2 Jet Engine, and the second was the Ground Hugger XR2 recumbent bicycle.   For an affordable Windows application, Rhino is the best NURBS modeler on the planet."
                                                                                                               --Robert Q. Riley

    Ford Prodigy Tooling
"Rhino was used to design, develop and make the surface data required to build the Ford Prodigy carbon fiber hood and deck lid. Rhino was also used on other projects for Aston Martin, Ford, and Viper. Rhino is a fantastic package."
                                                                                                         --Cameron Dempster

Rhino is a conceptual design and modeling tool for industrial, product, and scene designers. Its robust technology provides the flexibility to accurately model anything from heart valves to ship hulls, and from mice to monsters.

"Our goal is to give professional modelers the Windows tools they need to accurately build complex free-form models." explains Bob McNeel, President of Robert McNeel & Associates (Rhino developer). "Until now, robust NURBS modeling technology like this has been available only in UNIX workstation software costing thousands of dollars."

A new way to model in Windows
Rhino combines the accuracy of traditional CAD with the flexibility of spline-based modeling technology, to create objects that are smooth NURBS curves and surfaces rather than line segments or polygon meshes. Rhino uses trimmed free-form NURBS surfaces to accurately represent curved shapes, including curved shapes with holes in them. Rhino also integrates solids (surfaces joined together at their edges) and surface modeling so that solids can be exploded into surfaces, edited, and then joined back together again. Any combination of curves, surfaces, and solids can be trimmed.

Companion modeler and geometry utilities
Because of its ease of use and low cost, Rhino is an ideal companion to many animation and rendering products as well as to CAD, CAM, CAE, 3-D  digitizing, rapid-prototyping, 3-D painting, games development, and VR authoring tools. Spline-based models created in Rhino can be used in most rendering and animation products, including 3D Studio MAX, Softimage, and LightWave 3D.

3-D design for everyone
Now, for the first time, industrial designers can have a precision free-form modeling tool on their PC, rather than a modeler that is only compatible with a 30- to 50-thousand dollar workstation. When using Rhino with other Windows application products like CAD, CAM, 3-D paint, and rendering, designers have all the tools they need at their desks. They can even build models directly from Rhino with the new low-cost rapid prototyping systems.

Unlike most modelers, Rhino will accurately build any shape that the designer can imagine. Rhino’s models are unconstrained and can be edited without consideration for how the model was created.

Breakthrough for the film and video industry
In the film and video industry, it is cheaper to build and render virtual sets than it is to shoot live action. But the modeling tools required to build these virtual scenes can cost tens of thousands of dollars per seat. Now, with the introduction of Rhino, production houses can afford to put a NURBS modeler on everyone’s desktop, laptop, and home computer.

3-D digitizing
With Rhino’s direct support for the Faro and MicroScribe 3D digitizing systems, NURBS curves and surfaces can be created directly from a physical model.

Supports industry standards
Rhino can be a powerful translator for a wide variety of 2-D and 3-D graphics, illustration, and modeling products. Supported graphics and modeling industry standards include IGES, DWG, DXF, 3DS, LWO, VRML, STL, OBJ, WMF, RIB, BMP, TGA, JPG, and AI file formats.

System requirements
Rhino runs nicely on a system with a Pentium processor, 32 MB RAM, and 15 MB disk space under Windows 95, 98, NT, Win 200, or Windows XP. No special graphics hardware is needed.

Support, service, and satisfaction guaranteed
Rhino is backed by a 100% satisfaction guarantee. User support is available by phone, on a private Internet newsgroup, and by e-mail at rhino@mcneel.com.   Rhino also can be automatically updated from the Internet.
